TroubleshootingOptions not showing on product page

Options not showing on product page

If your options don’t appear on a product page, it’s almost always one of a few things. Work down this list in order — the first three cover the large majority of cases.

1. Is the plugin on your theme?

Open Settings in OptionWise. The Themes card must show “OptionWise is live — your options are showing on your storefront.” If your live theme’s row reads “Plugin not installed” instead, click Add OptionWise plugin to open the theme editor with the plugin ready to add. See Plugin placement.

The plugin has to be on your published theme for customers to see options. If the Themes card shows OptionWise on a draft theme only, your options appear when you publish that theme — until then, add the plugin to your live theme too.

On a trial theme? Shopify doesn’t let apps read the files of a Theme Store theme you haven’t purchased yet, so OptionWise can’t detect its own plugin there — the status card may not update even though the plugin is installed and working. Check the theme preview to confirm your options render; detection starts working once you purchase the theme.

2. Is the option set published?

Open the option set. The status card should read Active, not Draft. If it’s a draft, flip the Publish option set toggle. See Verify on the storefront.

3. Does the set target this product?

Check the Products card on the option set. The product you’re looking at must match the targeting — all products, or a collection/tag/type/product the set includes. See Assign to products.

4. Is the plugin in the right place?

If the set is published and targets the product but options still don’t show, confirm the OptionWise plugin is inside the product section of your template (not a header/footer section) and positioned before the buy buttons. See Plugin placement.

5. Can OptionWise find the form?

On some themes with unusual markup, OptionWise can’t locate the add-to-cart form to attach to. See Form detection failures.

6. Are you looking at a quick-view popup?

Many themes offer a quick view or quick add popup on collection pages. These popups render their own mini product form and don’t include theme app blocks — so OptionWise’s options never appear there, and a customer who adds to cart from the popup skips the options (and any required-field validation) entirely. Open the full product page and the options will be there.

If your products need options filled in, consider disabling quick add in your theme settings so customers always go through the product page.
