Add-on prices
OptionWise can charge customers extra when they pick a paid option — gift wrap, a premium finish, an engraving service. You attach a price to a value, and OptionWise adds it to the cart automatically. This page covers the one-time setup and how to price your options.
One-time setup
Add-on pricing needs a quick one-time setup before you can price anything.
The first time you open the Pricing panel on any option, you’ll see a short explainer and an Enable add-on pricing button. Click it. OptionWise then adds one thing to your store:
- A hidden “Add-ons” product. OptionWise creates a single product named Add-ons in your catalog, with a simple neutral icon as its image. It’s the line that carries the add-on charge in the cart, and it’s hidden from your storefront — customers never see it as a separate product.
That’s it — a one-time click, and you’re ready to start pricing options.
You don’t need to manage the “Add-ons” product. OptionWise uses it behind the scenes to apply every add-on charge, and it stays hidden from shoppers — it’s kept off your Online Store sales channel, so it never shows up in your storefront, search, or collections.
Renaming it or changing its image
You can customize how the add-on line looks in the cart. The Add-ons product’s name and image are what shoppers see on the add-on line at checkout, so some stores rename it (for example to “Customization” or “Personalization”) or swap the default icon for a small logo. To do this, open the product in Shopify and edit its title or featured image like any other product.
If you edit the product, keep it set to Active and don’t change its vendor or remove its tag — OptionWise uses those to find the product, and it must stay Active to be added to the cart. Setting it to Draft, or changing its vendor or tag, will stop add-on pricing from working.
Price a value
Once setup is done:
- Open the option and click Show advanced settings.
- Open the Pricing panel. Each of the option’s values is listed with an amount field.
- Enter the add-on amount for any value you want to charge for. Amounts are
in your shop’s base currency (the field shows a
+and your currency symbol). Leave a value blank or0for no charge. - Save the option set.
Add-on amounts are set in your base currency (for example, +$5.00 for gift wrap), and OptionWise shows them to shoppers in their local currency.
How many priced values you can have
OptionWise supports up to 100 priced values across all of your published
option sets combined. A “priced value” is any option value
that carries an add-on amount — values you leave blank or at 0 don’t
count.
The limit is store-wide, not per option set. If several published option sets apply to the same product — or just across your whole store — their priced values are added together toward the 100. If a save would push you over the limit, OptionWise blocks it and tells you, so your storefront prices and what’s charged at checkout always stay in sync. Remove some priced values (in this set or another published one), or unpublish a set you’re not using, to free up room.
