Plugin placement on the product page
OptionWise adds its options to your storefront through its plugin — a Shopify app block you place in your product template. For the best shopping experience, the plugin should sit after the variant picker and before the buy buttons. Shoppers pick a variant, then customize with OptionWise, then add to cart.
Adding the plugin manually
The quickest way to add the plugin is from OptionWise itself — the Add OptionWise to your theme step during setup, or later from Settings → Themes → Add OptionWise plugin. Both open the theme editor with the plugin ready to drop.
If that doesn’t land the plugin where you want it — for example you switched themes, removed it, or want it in a different product section — you can add it by hand from the theme editor. (In the theme editor, the plugin appears as an app block named OptionWise.)
Open the theme editor
In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes, then click Customize on your published theme.
Navigate to a product template
Use the template dropdown at the top of the editor and choose Products → Default product (or a specific product template you want to edit). The editor shows a product page with the theme’s sections in the left panel.
Add the OptionWise app block
Select the product details section, then click Add block in the left panel. Select Apps, then select OptionWise. The block appears in the section.
Position it and save
Drag the block so it sits after the variant picker and before the buy buttons, then click Save.
You only add the plugin once per theme. After that, every option set you publish appears automatically on its targeted products — you don’t return to the theme editor for each one.
How to move the plugin
- Open your theme editor and navigate to the product template.
- Find the OptionWise app block inside the main product section.
- Drag it so it sits between the variant picker and the buy buttons.
- Save.
Why position matters
Placement follows the order customers make decisions in: pick a variant, then customize with OptionWise, then add to cart. Keeping the plugin above the buy buttons means shoppers see the options as a natural part of that flow — place it below them and many will add to cart before they spot the options.
